Following from Malaysiakini:
A former MP from MIC is expected to move to PKR this Saturday, in conjunction with a special address by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim for the Indian community in Petaling Jaya.
The expected defection comes hot on the heels of another high profile defection last Saturday, which saw former MCA deputy president Chua Jui Meng jumping to the PKR.
Along with Chua, two other defectors were former MCA senator David Yeoh Eng Hock and former Lumut parliamentarian Yap Yit Thong, giving PKR a much needed boost.
Come Saturday, a large number of MIC grassroots are expected to join the former MP in the PKR, said the main organiser for the event and Kapar MP S Manikavasagam.
“This will result in 10 to 15 MIC branches being dissolved in Petaling Jaya and Meru,” he said, but declined to name the person.
He said PKR was working on attracting more MIC bigwigs to defect, however such announcements would be made in stages.Report Card
Meanwhile, Manikavasagam said Anwar’s speech would be addressing current affairs surrounding the Indian community, such as custodial deaths, land for temples, education and economic issues.
He added that sole ethnic Indian Selangor executive council member Dr Xavier Jayakumar will be delivering a ‘report card’ of the Pakatan Rakyat Selangor government’s contributions to the Indian community.
“He is going to report on what the Selangor govenrment has done, especially in the areas of schools and temples,” he said.
Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim is also scheduled to make an appearance at the event, along with a large contingent of ethnic Indian lawmakers.
The event will be held at the MPSJ community hall in PJS4 at 4pm
